U.S. Automotive exhibited the 1970 Boss 429 Mustang during 1998, which sadly has now been sold! However, we still have some pictures to remember it by. Here are some of them (at it's former home in Arizona), and some information about the car. |

Cactus not included! |
The car is a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, one of 499 built for the 1970 Model year.
This model was first introduced in 1969 in order to homologate the Boss 429 engine for NASCAR usage. Although the Torino and Montego were actually raced, the Mustang being the "image" car was chosen.
In order to fit the engines, the cars were shipped from the Ford assembly plant to an outside contractor Kar Kraft who performed the modifications. These included moving the front suspension outwards thus widening the track by 2in. and custom building the exhaust system. All of these modifications only added $1208 to the cost of the car, thus they lost money on every one they built! Even though they only needed to make 500 examples, they continued making the Boss 429 through 1970 until a total of 1300 were completed. |
Above: Exhibited at the World of Wheels show in Phoenix, Arizona where the Mustang won First place in the "Best Restored" category. |
Our car was fully restored from a rust and damage free original which spent most of its life in the southern states. All of the work was undertaken by a restorer who had already built several Boss 429s this was to be his own "perfect" car for which he had collect a large amount of NOS parts. Where appropriate, the parts are marked with the correct Ford I.D. and date coding. |
Almost certainly the car is better than when it was originally delivered and has a recorded mileage of approximately 36,500 miles very few of them since its restoration.
The car is finished in the original "Grabber Blue" with a white vinyl interior and features the following options:-
VIN #0F02Z134624 KK NASCAR #2399
Boss 429 CID V8/375HP
Close ratio 4-speed top-loader transmission with Hurst shifter
